Pennington County Auditor expects higher-than-average turnout

City of Rapid City

Tuesday is election day in Rapid City. With five candidates vying for mayor and school board seats up for grabs, the results are far from predictable.

Pennington County Auditor Cindy Mohler said she’s expecting above-average turnout.

“I believe it’s going to be a little bit more than our normal city/school elections," Mohler said. "I’ve been looking back at statistics of absentee voting, and I’m thinking we’re going to be a little bit more than that considering the five candidates for mayor. We’ve seen a little bit stronger turnout for absentee voting as well, so we’ll probably have over 4,000 absentee ballots.”

Mohler reminded voters to work with poll employees.

“We always cross our fingers and hope for the best, you try and cover every base you possibly can, but everybody is human and sometimes things happen,” Mohler said.

Polls are open until 7 pm Mountain time.
