Rapid City mayoral recount this week

City of Rapid City

The recount for the Rapid City mayoral election has officially been scheduled for Thursday morning at 8 a.m. MST at the Pennington County Auditor’s Office.

After the five-candidate election earlier this month, Alderman Laura Armstrong finished just 269 votes behind current mayor-elect Jason Salamun. Armstrong later requested a recount.

Liz Hamburg is the city representative on the recount board. She is joined on that board by former Kevin Thom representing mayor-elect Salamun and Chuck Parkinson representing Armstrong.

There is no set timeline for when the recount is to be completed. The next mayor will be sworn in at the July 3 city council meeting.
