The South Dakota National Guard’s 109th Regional Support Group returned home from the Middle East after a nearly year-long deployment.

Officials said in their time away, the 109th supported over 8,000 Coalition forces by assisting in the prevention of the resurgence of ISIS forces along side the Iraqi government.

The mission was in support of Operation Inherent Resolve and the units first deployment together.

All 84 soldiers returned to a welcome home celebration in Rapid City Saturday with speeches by Gov. Kristi Noem and Rep. Dusty Johnson.
