The Sioux Falls City Council has deemed four homes in a historic neighborhood beyond rescue.
The four homes in the Sherman Historic District are described by city officials as “dilapidated,” and suffer varying levels of damage.
While some have broken in windows and overgrown lawns, others have severe vandalism and structural damage inside.
Central District Councilor Curt Soehl said the properties have been of concern for some time.
“There’s been several ideas floated throughout the years, starts and stops, starts and stops," Soehl said. "I think we might have gotten to the point where this property can be revitalized and be a contributing part to the central part of Sioux Falls.”
This comes despite a call from the state Historical Society to keep the homes intact.
These lots will be redeveloped as apartments.
