Nov. 5 is right around the corner, and political leaders are buckling down on their messaging heading into the vote.

South Dakota Republican Sen. Mike Rounds said it’s time for party leadership to get down to brass tacks.

“I want to hear discussion on policy," Rounds said. "How in the world are we going to bring inflation down? How in the world are we going to fix the southern border? What are we going to do about the fact that on an international basis we have fires all over the world? What are we going to do? What’s our policy going to be like when it comes to these types of issues?”

Rounds said he’s confident Republicans can have a strong showing, if leadership can focus.

“If they’re going to be personal and talk about things that are peripheral, I think the American people are going to get discouraged," Rounds said. "I think if they actually refocus on what the American people want to hear, stick to the policy, then I think the American people will say ‘I get it. I’m listening to these folks, and I know how I’m going to vote.’ Then I think we come out very, very well.”

Rounds was in Rapid City for a luncheon with community business, political, and economic leaders.
