Senate passes bill removing firearm restrictions for certain organizations

File

A bill prohibiting counties, municipalities and townships from placing firearm restrictions on employees, officers and volunteers passes the Senate floor.

Proponents tout the bill as a win for 2nd Amendment rights.

Sen. Mykala Voita spoke on the Senate floor. She said the bill closes a loophole taxpayer-funded organizations were making policies that say employees can’t conceal carry.

Opponents say the law is a workplace issue and should be left to local organizations.

HB 1218 passes on the Senate floor 30-4. The bill was amended in the Senate, meaning it now heads back to the House for approval.
