Gov. Larry Rhoden is signing an executive order directing the creation of a system for state employees to report misconduct.
“Under my leadership, South Dakota will have a government that is accountable and responsible with taxpayer dollars, and this Executive Order is an important step forward,” Rhoden said. “During the Noem-Rhoden Administration, we took decisive action to ensure government integrity, and I am proud to carry that mission forward.”
The order comes in three parts. The first requires the Bureau of Human Resources and the Bureau of Information and Telecommunications to create a way to report issues. The second encourages employees and requires supervisors to report misconduct to the Attorney General and Auditor General. The third implements training on the reporting system.
This comes after the Legislature passed several bills backed by Attorney General Marty Jackley to address potential misconduct by state employees. Those laws are set to take effect in July. Rhoden said his order implements the provisions laid out in those bills.
