Following an apparent politically motivated assassination of a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband over the weekend has many lawmakers calling for reason to prevail nationwide.

South Dakota House Majority Leader Scott Odenbach, a Spearfish Republican, condemns political violence and issued a joint statement with all legislative leaders. He said the states ties to Minnesota have everyone on guard.

“We agreed on that term – “our neighbors” – and that’s what shakes us the most," Odenbach said. "We all know people in Minnesota, my wife grew up in Minneapolis, and I was married in Plymouth. We all have those ties. It’s a crazy time we live in when that type of thing starts happening. I just want everybody to stay vigilant, stay safe, and keep on believing in our system of government where we resolve things through civil debate.”

Vance Boelter, has been arrested following what is being called the largest manhunt in Minnesota history. His motives remain unclear.
