After a few hectic months in Washington, Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he’s focused on bringing money back to the state.
“We pay a lot of attention to the economic issues," Thune said. "Here in Rapid City and the Black Hills area Ellsworth Air Force Base and its vitality plays an important role in that, but also agriculture, it’s our number one industry.”
While Thune continues to endorse the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, he acknowledged the challenge leading Senate Republicans with the nation so sharply divided.
“Everything’s hard," Thune said. "There isn’t a day going by where you’re not trying to figure out how to put out the latest fire, but I believe in the work we’re doing. I think it’s important for the country. Even though it’s hard at times, it’s rewarding when you see things get done, and I’m someone whose very much a purpose-driven person. I think the purpose we’re at least attempting to serve in the Congress right now, working with President Trump and his team is critically important to the future of this country.”
There are no Senate recesses scheduled for the month of August, making for a busy month for Thune in D.C.
