The South Dakota Democratic Party has announced a new candidate for the state’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Billy Mawhiney is the executive director of the South Dakota Afterschool Network, which works to connect families of school-aged children with educational programming and child care outside of school hours.
He’s previously worked with the Boys & Girls Club both in South Dakota and his home-state of Missouri. Mawhiney is an enrolled citizen of the Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma.
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has also formally announced his candidacy as a Republican candidate for U.S. House. Current congressman Dusty Johnson is now campaigning for governor.
