Governor Larry Rhoden recently mobilized 12 South Dakota National Guardsmen to Washington D.C. at the request of President Donald Trump. The announcement came Sunday.

A release from the governor’s office says the guard members are from the 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment based out of Rapid City. The initial deployment is expected to last 30 days, and is completely federally funded.

"South Dakota stands in solidarity with President Trump and his efforts to Make America Safe Again," Rhoden said in the press release on Sunday.

President Trump deployed the National Guard and enacted federal control over Washington D.C.’s police force following a crime emergency declaration in mid-August.
