As state lawmakers debate slashing state property taxes, municipal governments are bracing for potential consequences.
That is readily apparent in Sioux Falls, where city leaders have been preparing for a reduction in revenue for months.
In July, mayor Paul TenHaken first announced what he described as quote “recalibration.” That involved reassessing city services to save money with property tax caps and underwhelming sales tax growth to compensate.
That $775 million “recalibration” budget package will be voted on at the city council meeting Tuesday, Sept. 9.
