Gov. Larry Rhoden has announced a task force dedicated to correctional rehabilitation efforts.

This comes with a special legislative session on the horizon aiming to decisively answer the prison construction debate.

Many opponents of new construction advocate for additional programs to rehabilitate inmates to reduce recidivism, rather than invest in a wholly new facility.

Rhoden, in a statement, says the current prison facility lacks needed resources to help re-integrate inmates into society upon release.

The New America Institute, a public policy think tank, estimates 94 percent of inmates will be released from prison within their lifetimes.
