Gov. Larry Rhoden is appointing John Shubeck as a District 16 Representative in the state House of Representatives. He’s filling the seat formerly held by Rep. Richard Vasgaard, who died last month.

Shubeck served in the United State Marine Corps for 20 years. He received the Bronze Star, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and Combat Action Ribbon for his time in service.

He lives in Bereseford and manages a farm that produces both grain and livestock. He’s planted a church in Centerville and is the head track coach of the Centerville Middle and High School teams.

Shubeck said he plans to continue Rep. Vasgaard’s legacy by “putting the people of District 16 first in the same humble and hardworking manner that [Vasgaard] did.”

Jackson Dircks is a Freeburg, Illinois, native. He is pursuing a degree in English, Journalism and Secondary Education at Augustana University and planning to graduate in May 2025. He plans to pursue a career in sports journalism.
