Nick Lamb is the new Secretary of the Department of Corrections starting in November.

Gov. Larry Rhoden has tapped Nick Lamb as the next Secretary of the Department of Corrections.

He replaces Kellie Wasko, who served in the role for three and a half years before her resignation. Beginning Oct. 21, DOC Deputy Secretary Brent Fluke will serve as secretary until Lamb formally takes over in November.

Lamb has 31 years of correctional experience, having worked for the DOCs of Iowa, Illinois, and New Mexico prior.

He is the Deputy Director of Institutional Operations for the Iowa DOC currently, where he oversees nine facilities and over 8,500 inmates.

Lamb is also a retired staff sergeant with 21 years of experience in the Army National Guard.

The Governor’s Office confirmed Lamb will serve in an advisory role on a Governor-appointed task force that has future implications for the state's correctional system. The Correctional Rehabilitation Task Force is hoping to fix a rehabilitation system that’s been criticized by some in the state Legislature.

Gov. Larry Rhoden’s office said DOC Deputy Secretary and Interim Secretary Fluke will continue to serve as the official DOC representative on the task force.
