A total of three ballot questions are approved for signature petitions this election cycle in South Dakota.

Secretary of State Monae Johnson said the groups backing these proposals submitted petitions ahead of the Nov. 3 deadline. All three are constitutional amendments.

One would require legislative changes to initiative and referendum procedures to be approved by a public vote.

Another makes it so any legislative changes to voter-approved initiated measures would require a three-fourths majority in the Legislature to pass.

The third repeals property taxes in South Dakota and replaces them with a retail transaction tax.

Backers of each proposal have until May 5 to get 35,017 signatures in order for it to appear on the November ballot. More information on each ballot question is available on the Secretary of State's website.
