Gov. Larry Rhoden has signed an executive order renaming the Bureau of Information and Telecommunications.

The department will soon be known as the Bureau of Information Technology.

The bureau — commonly called under its acronym, BIT — informally updated its name last year. The executive order finalizes the change and files it with the Legislature in accordance with state law.

“South Dakota continues to lead and innovate the technology space,” Rhoden said in a statement Wednesday. “By formally renaming BIT, we’re reaffirming our commitment to delivering efficient, technology-driven services for the people of South Dakota.”

The name change takes effect April 13.

SDPB is a division of BIT within state government.
