Opening our coverage of "The Shift" for the month of April, In the Moment will cover a variety of topics about changing demographics in South Dakota on Thursday, April 13. The radio program airs from 11am-1pm CT/10am-12pm MT. The lineup includes:

- Ben Winchester of the University of Minnesota. We’ll discuss his research regarding “rewriting the rural narrative,” the shifting farm economy, the impact of globalization on rural Midwestern towns, and the positive aspects of a diversified economy.
- SDPB’s Gary Ellenbolt takes you to Hurley and Parker in Turner County for a look at how the changing farm economy and the urban pull of Sioux Falls has impacted small towns and the people who live there.
- SDPB’s Chynna Lockett visits an art class in Faith to see how small schools find creative solutions to the challenge of arts programming.
- SDPB contributor Kevin Woster joins us to discuss his weekly blog, On the Other Hand where he talks about the dance hall in Vivian and the changing face of the community.
- SDPB’s Lee Strubinger looks at legislative solutions to changing demographics in South Dakota, focusing on Build South Dakota program as it celebrates its first graduates.
- SDPB’s Kealey Bultena visits with a Sanford representative from the Sanford Centerville Clinic about the shifting nature of rural healthcare and creative solutions to small town/rural service.
- Hugh Weber hosts a Q&A with Alex Dean of Wessington Springs. He’ll talk about how Dean launched a successful TED platform from a small-town café.
