In the 1930s, Earl Neller and his family embarked on a road trip. With six children in tow, Neller hitchhiked from Sioux Falls to the Black Hills and then to Hebron, North Dakota. Archivist Matthew Reitzel wrote an article about their adventure in the latest South Dakota History journal titled "We were tramps along with the rest of them." He joins Ben Jones on History 605.

The Middle is a new live national call-in show hosted by Jeremy Hobson and produced by Lisa Napoli. SDPB airs the four-part series on Wednesdays October 19. We talk with Hobson about bringing voices from the middle of the nation to a national audience.
