The speeches that kicked off South Dakota's legislative session

On today's show...

Three speeches before the South Dakota Legislature this week kicked off the 100th legislative session.

Chief Justice Steven Jensen discussed public trust and access to the courts in his State of the Judiciary address. He recaps the speech for "In the Moment" listeners (1:00 to 13:30).

Attorney General Marty Jackley spoke with us after Gov. Kristi Noem's State of the State address. He offers us an updated look at his legislative priorities (13:30 to 23:40).

In the State of the Tribes address, Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate chairman J. Garrett Renville focused on collaboration. Renville and Representative Peri Pourier share how the Legislature could work with tribal nations (23:40 to 35:44).

Plus, President-elect Donald Trump will start his second administration with an inaugural address. Alexander Heffner, co-author of "A Documentary History of the United States" discusses how the speech could fit into a long history of political communication (35:44 to 49:05).
