McGovern Center responds to Mitchell prison debate

On today's show...

Two Minnesota state lawmakers and their spouses were shot this weekend. Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband passed away. Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were injured.

We hear from former Rapid City Journal reporter and current Star Tribune reporter Christopher Vondracek. We also get a statement from South Dakota Republican leader Rep. Scott Odenbach (1:00 to 7:57).

Then, SDPB's Jackson Dircks brings listeners an update on the statewide prison debate. Mitchell is one of the potential sites — as is Sioux Falls, Worthing and Springfield (7:57 to 17:56).

Read more of Dircks' reporting.

Then, the "In the Moment" team travels to Mitchell.

We tour the McGovern Center with its director, Joel Allen, Ph.D. He is also a professor of religion and philosophy at Dakota Wesleyan University.

Allen discusses the McGovern Center's mission and its purpose in the Mitchell community. And he offers insight into the research into faith communities that encourages his work as a faith leader and religion professor (17:56 to 49:10).
