Feeding our neighbors in a time of funding cuts

On today's show...

Federal funding for programs like Feeding South Dakota is going down, but food insecurity is rising every year.

Lori Dykstra, CEO of Feeding South Dakota, shares the funding challenges her organization is facing and takes us behind the scenes with trends she's seeing in the state.

The state's percentage of food-insecure families and individuals is going up annually. All while she's seeing more working families in the food line than ever before.

Dykstra is joined by Pam Cole, executive director of Bread Break. Her program works to address food insecurity by reducing food waste.

Both women share the amount of food waste in the state and how many South Dakotans don't know where their next meal is coming from (1:10-34:00).

Plus, the growers behind IronFox Farm discuss how they turned a vacant lot into an urban garden. Megan and Dan EisenVos talk about how an acre of land in residential Sioux Falls provides education and free food to the surrounding community (34:00-47:57).
