On today's show...

Paul DeJong's "If Our Trees Could Talk: Discovering the Urban Forest of Sioux Falls" explores his community's trees and their stories.

The book was written with retired city planner Mike Cooper with photographs by Paul Schiller.

DeJong and Cooper talk about how trees are different throughout the seasons and throughout their lifetimes (1:10-21:37).

Ben Jones, Ph.D., previews the state's plans to celebrate the country's 250th anniversary. Plus, he dives into what we celebrate when we celebrate America (21:37-38:26).

"A Way with Words" is on SDPB every Sunday morning. Its co-host Martha Barnette joins "In the Moment" to wax poetic about language with our listeners.

Her new book is "Friends with Words: Adventures in Languageland" (38:26-49:15).
