SDSU Wrestler Makes Jackrabbit History

EVANSTON, Ill. – 157-lb senior Cody Pack went 1-1 on day two of the prestigious Midlands Championships, hosted by Northwestern. #14 Pack advanced to the championship match against #9 Isaiah Martinez by way of a win over #18 Justin Staudenmayer (Brown).

Pack is the first Jackrabbit to ever make it to the Midlands championship match and is the highest placer in SDSU history at the tournament.

In the title bout against Illinois’ Martinez, Pack fell, 6-3. Pack showed an aggressive attack, but ultimately fell short against the undefeated Martinez.

In the semifinals, Pack defeated #18 Justin Staudenmayer (Brown), 5-1. After trailing 1-0, Pack recorded a second-period takedown and reversed Staudenmayer in the third for the 5-1 win.

Isaac Andrade (125), Colin Holler (149) and David Kocer (174) also advanced to the second day of competition but dropped consolation matches in the afternoon session.

SDSU (3-5, 0-0 WWC) return home for the entire month of January, starting with duals against Buffalo and Dakota Wesleyan on January 11. SDSU will also host Boise State (Jan. 16) and Northern Colorado (Jan. 18), along with Cal Poly and Oregon State (Jan. 25).
