The Sioux Falls Washington Warriors defeated the Sioux Falls O’Gorman Knights 43-40 on Saturday night for the class AA state girls basketball championship.

Washington started the game slow, while O’Gorman gained momentum. The Knights led through one quarter 11-2. The Warriors found their groove in the second quarter to tie the game going into half, 18-18.

The remainder of the game was back and forth with the game coming down to the final seconds. O’Gorman trailed by three points with 2.8 seconds to play in the game with an opportunity to try and score. Unfortunately for the Knights, they were unsuccessful.

Sydney Arrington of Washington led all players in scoring with 16. She also brought down eight rebounds and had a couple steals. Jessica Mieras led the scoring for O’Gorman with 15 points. Katie Messler led O’Gorman with 11 rebounds and two blocks.

This is the second straight title for the Washington Warriors girls basketball program, and their fourth overall.
