Since it’s inception in 2016, an annual event at the Black Hills Stock Show is growing in popularity. Broncs for Breakfast, is a “Ride as Ride Can Be” event which is quite different from normal bronc riding. Riders are all actual working cowboys and ride with their stock saddles.
The event features a breakfast of biscuits and gravy and a what is called a Calcutta, an optional event that increases audience participation. At the beginning of the rodeo spectators are able to place bids through auction to purchase a rider for the day, highest bid wins that rider. All riders are auctioned and bidders receive a percentage of the Calcutta pot based on how well their riders place.
The Long-go includes 30 riders with the top eight advancing to the short-go. A total of $5,000 was up for grabs on Burch Rodeo stock. For the Broncs for Breakfast results and other Stock Show results and information go to http://www.blackhillsstockshow.com/
