Don Meyer Entering Small College Basketball Hall of Fame

Former Northern State University Men’s Basketball Coach Don Meyer will enter the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame. During his career in coaching college hoops, Meyer won 923 games.

Throughout his 40-year coaching career, Meyer spent time at Hamline University, Lipscomb University, and Northern State University. Meyer won the “Jimmy V Award for Perseverance” at the 2009 ESPYS Award ceremony.

He coached in Aberdeen, SD at Northern State University from 1999-2010. The Wolves men's basketball team posted a 221-104 record during Meyer's stint with them.

Meyer had to have part of his left leg amputated in 2008, due to a car accident. During the amputation procedure, doctors discovered that Meyer also had cancer.

In the spring of 2014, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, at age 69, Meyer lost his battle with the disease.

The induction ceremony for the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame will take place this November in Evansville, Indiana. Meyer's will enter the Hall of Fame with 11 other inductees.

Nate Wek is currently the sports content producer and sports and rec beat reporter for South Dakota Public Broadcasting. He is a graduate of South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism Broadcasting and a minor in Leadership. From 2010-2013 Nate was the Director of Gameday Media for the Sioux Falls Storm (Indoor Football League) football team. He also spent 2012 and 2013 as the News and Sports Director of KSDJ Radio in Brookings, SD. Nate, his wife Sarah, and three sons, Braxan, Jordy, and Anders live in Canton, SD.
