The Minnesota Vikings, pending a physical, will sign Rosemount, Minnesota native and University of South Dakota alum Tom Compton.

In college at USD, Compton was a two-time member to the First Team All-Great West Conference (2010 and 2011), and was also named to the FCS All-American team in 2011.

Drafted in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL draft by the Washington Redskins, 28-year old Compton has spent six seasons playing professional football. He spent the first four years of his career in Washington, and then has one year each with the Atlanta Falcons (2016) and Chicago Bears (2017).

Tom Compton's mom, Karen Compton, said the offensive lineman is flying to Minnesota now and will sign with the #Vikings. "I'm very excited,'' she said.

Compton also has a pre-existing relationship with Kirk Cousins, the Vikings new quarterback who became the highest paid player in NFL history (to this point) last week.

New #Vikings OL Tom Compton's mom, Karen: "His best friend and (former) roommate is Kirk Cousins. They were in the same draft class. They were roommates and best friends in Washington. The two of them always talked about their dream would be the two of them back together again.’’

Last season, Compton started five games for the Chicago Bears (left guard and right guard). He’s expected to give the Vikings depth up front on offense.

The terms of his contract in Minnesota are not yet known.
