Former University of South Dakota quarterback Chris Streveler made his Canadian Football League debut on Thursday night with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The Edmonton Eskimos snuck out a 33-30 win over Winnipeg, but Streveler put up solid numbers in his first regular season game with the team.
He threw for 178-yards (15 of 28) with three passing touchdowns and two interceptions.
His first passing touchdown of his professional career came in the first quarter of the game, when he connected with former University of North Dakota wide out Wester Dressler for a 16-yard score.

Streveler played two years at USD for the Coyotes football program. During that time he threw for over 6,000 yards and had 54 touchdowns. In 2017, he was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Streveler was also a finalist for the Walter Payton award.
He came to USD as a transfer from the University of Minnesota, having spent his first three years of college with the Gophers.
Winnipeg signed Streveler in May of this year with the idea that he’d compete for the back-up quarterback job. A week and a half ago, the Blue Bombers lost Matt Nichols, the teams starting quarterback, to a knee injury. Streveler was then given the nod to be the teams starting quarterback for the season opening game.
Streveler is the first quarterback coming out of college to start a game in the CFL since 1994.
