On Sunday afternoon, Rapid City Post 22 defeated Mitchell Post 18 with a final score of 9-0 to win the American Legion “A” state title.
Post 22 entered the tournament as the Region 3A Champion. They defeated Brookings Post 74 in the opening round of the tournament, and then went on to defeat Mitchell Post 18, Renner Post 307, and Brandon Valley Post 131 to earn a spot in the championship game on Sunday.
Because the tournament is double elimination, Mitchell Post 18, who Post 22 defeated on Thursday, would have had to beat Rapid City twice on Sunday, while Post 22 only needed one victory.
This is the 42nd State American Legion Baseball championship for the Rapid City Post 22 program.
