It was announced Wednesday by the South Dakota High School Activities Association that the post-season bracket known as the ‘Round of 16’ will officially change it’s name to ‘SoDak 16.’

SDHSAA Executive Director Dan Swartos released this statement on Wednesday afternoon…

“This name change is the result of a survey of our member school student bodies last spring and a vote by the member school student bodies this fall. Each school was given an opportunity to vote. We understand that it may take a while to catch on, but would ask that you refer to the Round of 16 as the SoDak 16 starting now.”

The SoDak 16 is only a change in name, as it won’t affect anything regarding the competitive format of it. The process of re-seeding the final 16 teams into a one round play-in game to see which eight teams go to the state tournament, that will remain the same.

This change is immediate, which means the post-season of volleyball, girls basketball, and boys basketball will all see the revision this year.
