Team USA, Van Boening, Wins Mosconi Cup

Last weekend, Shane Van Boening, a native of Rapid City, SD was apart the United States team to win the Mosconi Cup. On Friday, Team USA won the top prize 11-9 in London over Europe, and it was Van Boening who secured the winning point.

This is the first time that Team USA has won the event in eight years. Van Boening was also on the United States team in 2009, which also won the Mosconi Cup. He also scored the winning point for Team USA that year as well.

In 2014, SDPB sat down with Shane Van Boening, who early in his career was nicknamed by his competitors as “The South Dakota Kid.”

Nate Wek is currently the sports content producer and sports and rec beat reporter for South Dakota Public Broadcasting. He is a graduate of South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism Broadcasting and a minor in Leadership. From 2010-2013 Nate was the Director of Gameday Media for the Sioux Falls Storm (Indoor Football League) football team.
