The Associated Press released their most recent college basketball rankings on Monday morning. On the women’s side of the spectrum, the University of South Dakota has moved into the No. 25 spot, making it the first time in division one school history that the Coyotes have made it onto the AP’s Top-25 list.

In a press release on Monday from USD, head coach Dawn Plitzuweit said the Top-25 ranking is a blessing.

““It is certainly an exciting day for our young ladies to receive this recognition nationally by the AP Top 25 poll for the hard work that they have put in so far this season,” said Plitzuweit. “This type of honor speaks volumes of the players and coaches who have built this program before us and it can only occur when you have a special combination of support from your University and from your community like we have here.”

USD is currently 22-3 with only five games remaining in the regular season. They also have a 10-1 record in Summit League play, which is identical to the conference record of South Dakota State University.

Charlie Crème of ESPN released his most recent NCAA bracket predictions for women’s basketball on Monday as well. He currently has both USD and SDSU making the NCAA tournament. If this happens, it would be the first time in history that the Summit League has two teams represented in the NCAA tournament for basketball.
