SDHSAA To Honor State Hoops Teams and Players

SDHSAA To Honor Teams and Players

It’s been over a month since the South Dakota High School Activities Association decided to postpone all six of its state basketball tournaments. Since then, there were discussions of running them all in mid-June, but it was finally decided to cancel them a few weeks back.

On Tuesday in Pierre, a plan was announced to honor the teams and players who qualified, some of who played in the state tournament.

Corsica-Stickney, Faith, De Smet, and Castlewood will all receive a plaque that says ‘State Semifinalist’ on it, while Irene-Wakonda, Howard, Ethan, and Faulkton Area will receive plaques featuring the text ‘State Consolation Finalist.’ The plaques for these eight teams will look different from the other 40 who also qualified for the state basketball championships, because the ‘B’ girls tournament got one round of games in for their tournament, before the decision was made to pull the plug.

All of the other teams who were slated to play in a state hoops tourney will receive a plaque that says ‘State Quarterfinalist’ on the front.

The High School Activities Association also discussed giving medals to all of the players, but the exact details are yet to be decided. It's currently unknown whether or not the Suanne Big Crow Foundation will present any Spirit of Su awards or if the Peace Officers Association would present a Spirit of Six award for any of the eight teams who were present at the 'B' tournament in Spearfish.
