A fisherman in central South Dakota set a new state record with a recent catch.
Dan James landed a 28 pound, 4 ounce bigmouth buffalo in Lake Oahe on Jan. 7, according to South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. Officials say this sets a new unrestricted category record.
Bigmouth buffalo is a part of the sucker fish family. They can live to be over 100 years old. Some specimens surpass 60 pounds, including a 2022 confirmed catch in North Dakota.
