Dakota State University is joining a new athletic conference.

The Trojans agreed to join the Frontier Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

DSU's current sport conference, the North Star Athletic Association, plans to disband after the 2024-2025 season.

This comes as the university is building several new athletic facilities, including a new track, soccer and football fields.

All three fields are expected to be ready around fall 2025, the start of the first season in the Montana-based conference.

“This is a distinctive time for Dakota State University athletics. Not only are we opening brand new facilities…but moving to the Frontier Conference will provide our student-athletes to reach new heights in the competition arena as well as in the classroom," said university president José-Marie Griffiths.

DSU is currently working on Phase II of the plan. Plans include an inflatable dome for indoor training and softball competition.

Jackson Dircks is a Freeburg, Illinois, native. He is pursuing a degree in English, Journalism and Secondary Education at Augustana University and planning to graduate in May 2025. He plans to pursue a career in sports journalism.
