Trevor Zuehlke, who suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2019 playing football for Britton-Hecla, passed away early Thursday morning in Sioux Falls.

His father Kurt posted this message on Trevor’s Caring Bridge page.

“It is with extremely heavy hearts that we write this. Trevor’s soul has Passed On to Heaven this morning after nearly five years of numerous struggles and battles. Trevor had been feeling a little off for a few days and yesterday morning suffered a massive seizure, and he was airlifted to Sioux Falls. He was surrounded by many loving family and friends. This struggle was his last one and now he is at complete peace with his loved ones in heaven. We appreciate all the love and support we, and especially Trevor, have received over the past years. We are so at peace knowing he is no longer dealing with hardships and struggles, and he is able to be free once again in Heaven.”

Over the years, various teams and communities have honored Trevor. Whether it be a fundraiser or simply to raise awareness towards him and his injury.

In the 2019 9A state championship game, the Britton-Hecla team honored their injured teammate on the first play from scrimmage of the contest.

During his senior year, the Braves team honored Trevor again. On October of 2020, he took the field one final time with his high school teammates.

In 2021, Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert, who played prep ball for Britton, showed support for Trevor with a special pair of cleats.
