Special Olympics athletes gear up for bocce, softball tournaments in Rapid City

The Olympics and Paralympics may be over, but Special Olympics athletes from across the state convene in Rapid City this weekend.

More than 800 people take part in softball and bocce for this year’s State Fall Classic Tournament.

The bocce tournament starts Sep. 20 at 9 a.m. at the Memorial Park Bocce Courts. The softball tournament begins Sep. 21 at 9:45 a.m. at the Parkview Complex and continues Sep. 22 at 9 a.m.

“We’re excited to bring our State Fall Classic Tournament back to Rapid City,” said Cathy Grubb, Black Hills Area Sports Director. “The community of Rapid City always steps up to help volunteer the day of these tournaments. We’re excited to once again show the talents of our Special Olympics athletes to those living West River.”

Special Olympics representatives say volunteers and spectators are always welcome. View the full schedule here.
