The 2025 SDHSAA state softball tournaments began on Thursday from Sioux Falls and Aberdeen. Augustana University is hosting the Class AA tournament, while the Players Complex in Aberdeen is housing Class A and B.
Class B
Deuel 9 Avon 2
Cardinals senior pitcher Katrina Hagberg threw a complete game. She recorded 16 strikeouts in the win for Deuel. She also gave up six hits, two earned runs, and walked four runners. Shortstop Aubrey Lanners went 1 for 4 batting with a home run and four RBI’s. Tory Engebretson also had a good day at the plate going 1 for 2, two RBI’s, and two walks.
Alcester-Hudson 11 Florence/Henry 3
The Cubs were led offensively by Emma Moller, who went 2 for 4 in the game with four RBI’s. She was also dominating on the mound, striking out 14 in seven innings of work. Moller walked just one batter. The Falcons were led by Ashlynn Vavruska, who went 3 for 4 swinging the bat and an RBI.
Mobridge-Pollock 17 Bon Homme 10
Amber Vetch was a big part of Mobridge-Pollock’s hot start with a three-run double in the first inning. She finished 3 of 4 from the plate, three RBI’s, and a walk. Grace Overland pitched seven innings. She did record five strikeouts, while giving up five earned runs in the win.
Gayville-Volin 12 Castlewood 5
Maia Achen put Gayville-Volin ahead right away with a two-run homer in the first inning. She finished the game 2 for 3 hitting with three RBI’s and a walk. Ayla Dimmer pitched seven solid innings for the raiders. While she only recorded three strikeouts, she limited Castlewood to six hits and three earned runs, and only walked one batter.
Class A
West Central 4 Vermillion 1
Elisabeth Miller notched 13-strikeouts for West Central, while giving up only one hit and one earned run in the seven inning, complete game, on the mound. Ayla Kramer’s two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth gave the Trojans just enough. Kramer went 1 for 3 with two RBI’s. Briauna Hoff went 3 for 3 in the win as well.
Dell Rapids 6 Sioux Valley 2
The Quarriers were led by pitcher Katie Kvigne. In seven innings, she struck out twelve and only gave up two hits and two earned runs in the win. Kvigne was also went 1 of 2 batting with two RBI’s on a third-inning double. Sioux Valley avoided the shutout in the seventh when Audrey Murano hit a two-run double.
Tri-Valley 14 Elk Point-Jefferson 8
Tri-Valley’s eleven run sixth inning propelled the Mustangs to a big win. Kadence Davey secured a game-tying grand slam as part of the scoring barrage, she finished with five RBI’s in the game. Ava Christensen also had a big day offensively for Tri-Valley as she went 3 for 4, two home runs, and four RBI’s. Elk Point-Jefferson was led by Cera Schmitz. She went 4 for 4 with seven RBI’s.
Dakota Valley 8 Madison 1
It was 1-1 score for most of the game until Dakota Valley put up seven runs in the fifth inning. Mia Riibe and Addie Dickson both had two-run hits in the top of the fifth with Paige Moffatt and Emma Barnett also contributing to the scoring. Barnett also had a great day on the mound for the Panthers. She struck out five and only allowed three hits in the winning effort.
Class AA
Sioux Falls Lincoln 4 Sioux Falls Roosevelt 3
Paxton Dekkers gave Lincoln the one-run lead in the fifth inning, and they never looked back. She finished the game going 2 for 3 with three RBI’s. Kierra Lubovich recorded nine-strikeouts in the win through seven innings of pitching for the Pats. For Roosevelt, Desiree Hinsch had six strikeouts through six innings of pitching in the loss.
Sioux Falls Jefferson 3 Brandon Valley 0
The Cavaliers were led on offense by Peyten Krull who went 2 for 3 hitting with two RBI’s and a solo home run. Tya Devericks recorded three K’s in five innings of pitching for Jefferson, giving up only two hits. Brandon Valley’s ace, Macy Lembcke had a solid day in the loss as well, striking out eight and having only one walk.
Harrisburg 15 O’Gorman 0
Six players recorded RBI’s in Harrisburg’s dominating quarterfinal win. Jayci Olson went 3 for 3 batting with two RBI’s and scoring two runs. Anna Simunek scored three times as well on three hits and had three RBI’s. Peyton LaFramboise went 2 for 2 with a walk and also had three RBI’s. The game ended after three innings of play.
Sioux Falls Washington 5 Rapid City Stevens 2
Rylynn Routh was the top offensive player in the lineup for Washington in the quarterfinals. She went 2 for 3 and had three RBI’s. Madelyn Mescher got the win on the mound with 5.1 innings pitched, nine strikeouts, eight hits, and two earned runs.
