For the third year in a row, Lincoln is celebrating a boys soccer championship. The Patriots rolled past Jefferson 6-0 on Saturday evening in the title match from Sioux Park in Rapid City.
Lincoln showed consistency throughout the showdown with Jefferson. They scored three goals in the first half and another three in the second half. Two of the goals came from Salmonsi David.
“It was really really hard, you know. We trained for this and look what happened,” said David. “It just feels really good.”
Miles Rolfing, Brady Stamp, and Hudson Holman also scored for the Patriots in the 80-minute match.
When Lincoln won their second straight title a year ago, there were questions about what the team would look like moving forward.
“We graduated sixteen last year. Didn’t quite know what we were going to have stepping up,” explained Patriots head coach Alex Nelson. “We knew we had some freshman, sophomores, and juniors ready for the challenge and they took it and ran with it.”
It turned into another great, dominating season.
“We had so many contributors this year that one team couldn’t single in on one of our players,” told Nelson. “We came at it in all directions.”
Lincoln will graduate another strong senior class this year – one that includes ten on the roster. But the vision moving forward remains consistent.
“[This one] feels as good as the first one and we’re ready to run it back next year,” said Nelson.
