For the past four seasons, one thing has remained consistent – Harrisburg winning a state girls soccer championship. The Tigers defeated O’Gorman 3-1 on Saturday night from Sioux Park Stadium in Rapid City.
One thing hasn’t been consistent for Harrisburg, however, these past four years– their head coaches. Eric Christensen stepped down after winning titles in ’22 and ’23, and then it was Hailee Fischer who took over in ’24 and won a title. Now this year it was Kamryn Miller’s turn. Different coaches, but it has in the same result.
“I think that what is important to remember is this team’s been here before. They’ve been in this moment, they know what it takes to get this thing done,” said coach Miller. “We fed off the energy all game. I think that’s what made the difference in today’s game.”
From start to finish, Harrisburg passed the eye test for viewers. They were aggressive and appeared in control throughout most of the match.
“Our back line has been our strongest asset all year,” stated Miller. “We love to play possession style soccer and it starts with them.”
With eleven seniors on the roster, that’s a large dose of leadership on the pitch for the Tigers. Despite winning the last three state championships, this group was poised and focused on doing it again.
“These girls showed up hungry. They’ve been hungry all year,” Miller exclaimed. “These seniors have worked with a lot of other leaders that have come before them. This year, they got to be the leaders. They got to be the ones to help us bring another championship to Harrisburg.”
With four straight titles for the Tigers girls soccer program, many will wonder if they can do it again in ’26. They’ll have plenty of great players coming back again to make another run. But as for if they’ll do it again next year, that’s something we’ll all just have to wait and see.
