David Jal was born in a village in South Sudan. At 10, he was forced to flee and spend the next 10 years in various refugee camps in East Africa. Eventually, he was resettled as a refugee in Sioux Falls.
Today, Jal has advanced degrees in social work, holds a professional position, and is the founder of non-profit to help those in his home village.
Jal is part of South Dakota State University's Speaker Series. He lectures Wednesday at University Center in Sioux Falls. He'll describe his journey from fleeing war-torn South Sudan to coming to the United States.
