Deadwood Songbook

This week we're doing something a little different - we're airing an SDPB Television documentary called The Deadwood Songbook. It features a concert recorded before a live audience at the Homestake Opera House in Lead on July 11th, 2008. The Deadwood Songbook project was spearheaded by the Adams Museum in Deadwood and South Dakota musician Hank Harris several years ago. The project resulted in two CD's and many, many performances around South Dakota - that was before this TV production. Fiddle player Kenny Putnam and accordion player-pianist Ricky Jacobsen joined Harris as the core musical team for the Deadwood Songbook project. We're featuring this production tonight because Ricky Jacobsen died this summer, and a musical celebration of his life is happening at the Homestake Opera House in Lead tomorrow from 2-6:30 MT.
