The Moondoggies

Hardly Art

The Moondoggies played The Icon Lounge in Sioux Falls on October 8, 2013.  It was the first concert in a 20-date run for the band from Everett, Washington.  Formed in 2005, The Moondoggies highlight dirty hooks, sweet harmonies, plaintive pleas and an electric edge.  The band has released three albums and one EP on the Hardly Art label.  Their most recent, "Adios I'm a Ghost," introduced listeners to 12 new songs last year.  Of the title, front man Kevin Murphy says he heard the phrase on a Phil Hendrie podcast!  In his high school days, Murphy played in the punk rock band The Familiars along with fellow Moondoggies Jon Pontrello and Robert Terreberry.  Keyboard player Caleb Quick and drummer Carl Dahlen make up the rest of the band.  They have drawn several comparisons, but the best description may be the one from Austin Scaggs of Rolling Stone who called the band "seriously kick-ass!"
