Overall traffic through the first few days of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is up from recent years.
Each year, the Department of Transportation tracks traffic entering the Black Hills during the rally. Through three days, officials counted 178,995 vehicles, up 7.6% from the five-year average.
With that increased traffic, officials are also seeing more crashes. The Department of Safety said there has been 20 injury crashes and one fatal crash associated with the rally — both higher than the totals at this point last year.
Meantime, the number of traffic citations issued are about the same as last year, while drug-related arrests and DUI arrests are down slightly.
