St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain will host its 47th annual powwow celebration and cultural activities September 14-16, 2023.
On Friday, September 15, there will be cultural activities and performances at St. Joseph’s Recreation Center and Aktá Lakota Museum & Cultural Center, as well as tours of the school and health center. An Open House at the new Equine Therapy Center is planned for noon.
On Saturday, September 16, there will be tours of the students’ campus homes and Our Lady of the Sioux Chapel. Powwow Grand Entry is at noon, and Mass is at Our Lady of the Sioux Chapel at 5:00 p.m. At the end of the day, a complimentary dinner will be served, and prizes will be awarded to the dancers and drum groups.
