Black Hills Community opens its 58th Season with the energetic and nautical family friendly adventure The SpongeBob Musical. Based on the series by Stephen Hillenburg with book by Kyle Jarrow, the quirky story about the power of optimism will delight both fans of the cartoon and those less familiar with its charms. The intricate and upbeat score features songs by a host of beloved pop musicians including Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, and David Bowie to name a few. When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up. Featuring tap-dancing sea anemones, a rascally band of pirates, and the power of imagination, this joyful musical will enchant audience members both young and young at heart.
The vibrant and familiar world of Bikini Bottom is inhabited by a cast of local actors featuring Chris Wheeler as SpongeBob, Zach Allen as Patrick, Claire Rumery as Sandy, Michael Lytle as Squidward, Jacob Schendzielos as Plankton, Annika Christopherson as Karen, Aaron Vidal as Mr. Krabs, Caroline Haugo as Pearl, Sean Leichtnam as Patchy the Pirate, Megan Leonard as Mayor and Jesse Hamer as Perch Perkins. The town is filled out by a Fish Ensemble of Brianna Bohling, Nadya Ciazynski, Hunter Elwess, Bode Fromm, Racie Little Bald Eagle, Morgen MacDonald, Emily Muirhead, Riley Perry, Ryan Puffer, Jacob Ranum, Nina Roberts, JD Schroeder, Kelly Sudyatmiko and Jonah Vasquez and a School Ensemble of Aiden Hamer, AJ Hendrickson, Blaine Lehmann, Henry Olivier, Lily Sortland, Penny Stevens, Poppy Stevens, and Vienna Waby.
