This year’s Arts Leadership Institute will be held on April 29-30, 2025, in Sioux Falls. Come together with arts leaders, trainers, and panelists from across South Dakota to learn more about how you can develop your organization’s audience by providing accessible experiences developed in collaboration with your community. Join SDSU Extension and the community of Platte for the 7th annual Energize! Conference on May 6–7, 2025.
This isn't your typical conference . . . This is a conference about rural communities and held in a new rural community each year. In addition, The Energize Rural Communities Conference is a "walking conference" - So bring your walking shoes because you won’t be sitting in a conference center for long! Breakout sessions are held in local businesses giving attendees a chance to explore the community, meet local business owners, and exchange success stories with leaders from across South Dakota.
The conference begins Tuesday, May 6th with a light lunch, registration, and networking with resource partners and our 2025 Keynote speaker, Rebecca Undem. Attendees can then choose from four breakout session tracks: Rural Tourism, Funding Community Projects, Engaging Community Members and Arts and Culture in your Community. Evening meal and entertainment provided by the Platte Committee. Wednesday, May 7th will have more breakout sessions and then it is back to the Platte Community Center for the Closing Panel: Voices of the Next Generation - Young Entrepreneurs!
Expect to leave inspired and energized and with ideas to bring back to your own community!

Rapid City Regional Airport will be hosting Wings of Wonder - a free, guided tour of Rapid City Regional Airport designed for individuals who may benefit from extra support and accessibility accommodations when traveling.
12:00 PM – Meet in the airport baggage claim area • Welcome & introduction to the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program • Time for guests to ask questions and meet with airport therapy dogs
12:30 PM – Head to the ticket counters • Walk through the check-in process • Learn about packing tips for individuals with medical needs.
1:00 PM – Go through the TSA checkpoint into the concourse to learn about accessibility features.
After the checkpoint: • Board buses for a behind-the-scenes tour of the airport grounds • For those not joining the bus tour, return to baggage claim or visit booths with information and visit with local representatives.

This class is an introduction to Rosemaling styles and background with the hands on learning of the basic strokes and how they are used. Local artist Eileen will guide and teach you about the paints, brushes and styles used in Norwegian Rosemaling. Attendees will learn & apply "S” and "C" strokes, creating a project to take home. No prior experience is needed to join in this creative adventure. Eileen will be there every step of the way, providing clear instructions and offering her supportive guidance to help you unleash your creativity.

Calling all young creators. Students in grades 1–3 will spend a fun-filled week discovering inventors and their groundbreaking creations. Participants will become inventors themselves – designing, building, and testing their own amazing inventions. Through hands-on experiments and teamwork, campers will learn to bring everyday items to life in exciting new ways. Days of ’76 Museum; 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; $50 for members and $55 for non-members. Space is limited and reservations are required. Scholarships are available.
