Sanford Research has joined a study that will focus on the long-term effects of COVID-19.
RECOVER is a program led by the National Institutes of Health and includes more than 30 research teams nationwide.
Long COVID effects can stick with someone for months after contracting the disease. Symptoms include coughing, fatigue and nausea.
Sanford is specifically interested in evaluating people who contracted COVID in the past 30 days.
Lora Black is the executive director of clinical research at Sanford. She said Sanford will enroll 100 participants.
Avera Research Institute announced its participation in the study last month.
"There has been collaboration between the sites as the other site opened the pediatric portion of RECOVER and we opened the adult portion," Black said. "So, we make sure that if we have patients eligible for the pediatric portion, we would refer them over there and vice versa."
Avera is focusing on participants younger than 25.
The study overall will include over 10,000 participants. To enroll in the study, call Sanford Research at (605) 312-3300.
