Delta David Gier: The Ukrainian national anthem, and a famed Russian composer

Josh Haiar

This interview is from SDPB's daily public-affairs show, In the Moment, hosted by Lori Walsh.

The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, like many cultural organizations, is finding ways to provide relevant, beautiful, and thought-provoking programming in difficult times. This weekend's performance includes the Ukrainian national anthem, famed Russian composer Tchaikovsky, a Syrian-American composer named Malek Jandali, and Indian tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain.

This conversation is about canceling classical composers, the soft power of peaceful music, and how art can move hearts more effectively than political rhetoric.

Lori Walsh is a special correspondent with SDPB and host of the "In the Moment" podcast.
